Top things to do in Toronto

We thought it was finally time to show our hometown some love. It seems like everyone these days is talking about the Six, whether it’s because of all the awesome artists that rep the city so well (Drake or the Weekend anyone?) or because of it’s booming tech culture.

As proud Torontonians, we want to share some of our favourite spots you should hit up when you’re in Toronto. Keep in mind this won’t be your “traditional” guide to the city, so it won’t include things like the CN Tower and the ROM (which you should check out if you have time) but it will be a guide from a local’s perspective.

1. Kensington Market

Hands down this is one our favourite places in Toronto. If we had to describe it in a few words it would be, “Where hippies and artists come to chill and create”. This eclectic neighbourhood is packed with tons of casual restaurants, vintage shops and amazing street art. There’s always something new to discover!

Here are some of our favourite places to eat in Kensington Market:

Seven Lives Tacos y Mariscos

Sweet Olenka’s

King’s Cafe (Vegan/Vegetarian)

Rasta Pasta

2. Harbourfront Boardwalk

If you happen to visit Toronto in the summer or fall, Harbourfront Boardwalk is a must. It’s located along Ontario Lake and while the lake is not ideal for swimming, you can still enjoy walking or biking next to the water. There’s also always a bunch of food/ cultural festivals that are held there throughout the year that are worth checking out. You can click here to learn about when things are happening.

3. The Distillery District

If you want to go back in time, check out the Distillery. This area is filled with gorgeous cobble stone streets and exposed brick buildings. It will make any fashion blogger or hipster scream Instagram goals!  During the summer, you can enjoy a drink or several at a patio while watching some local street performers and in the Winter make sure to check out the iconic  Christmas Market, where you can get everything from decorations to food.

4. The Island

Visiting the Toronto Island is one of our favourite things to hit up. For only a $7.50,you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city for the day.  It’s the perfect place to have a picnic, go for a bike ride or work on your tan at one of it’s many beaches. You’ll also get some epic views of the CN tower and the Toronto skyline!

    1. Toronto and Canada in general always seems like a really great place to visit. I bet the Distillery district would be especially fun with all of the cobblestone streets!
